Calculate ovulation: All info about your fertile days

No two bodies are the same, and this also applies to the female cycle and the timing of ovulation. You need to know this if you want to calculate your ovulation. We explain to you why it is practically impossible to predict ovulation exactly!

When are you fertile and can you get pregnant?

Your cycle begins with the first day of your menstruation. The calculation of your fertile days is based on statistics, or more precisely on an average value: Normally, the female cycle lasts about 28 days. The fertile days are in the middle. Ovulation typically occurs about 14 days before the start of your next menstrual period.

The problem: stress, illness, travel and many other factors can affect your hormone balance and mess it up. Sometimes the cycle lasts only 21 days and from time to time the period can be delayed up to 36 or even 40 days – the ovulation is postponed accordingly.

Spontaneous ovulation? Impossible to predict!

Not only competitive athletes, but all women can be affected by spontaneous shifts in ovulation – it’s simply impossible to predict. An irregular cycle is not in itself a cause for concern, but quite normal. If you have concerns, you should talk to your doctor about it.

Does an ovulation calendar work as a safe contraceptive method?

You want to get to know your body better? With the ovulation calendar you have your cycle exactly in view and can also roughly calculate when your fertile days are. This way you get to know your body better and always keep an eye on when your next days are coming. However, it is not suitable as a reliable contraceptive method. It is not enough to calculate the fertile days to find out when the chance of pregnancy is highest.
